October 4th class

EDU3051, Diversity & Application to Planning, Instuuctional Strategies, & Assessment, is a couse on diversity and how to educate students with special needs in the least restructive environment, the general education classroom. Special needs students use to not be in general education classrooms; they were in resource rooms with special education teachers. Section 504 of Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973 made all children entitled to Free Appropriate Public Education. Students with special needs today join the regular students in the general education classroom. Students with special needs could range students with vision or hearing impairments, speech impairments, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, behavioral issues, or language differences. In order to be classified as special needs, the students learning must be affected by the impairment or disability. For example, a student who has had a limb amputated may not qualify for special services because it doesn't really affect their learning.
